Fairway Woods – Valuable Golf Clubs

Some of the most challenging types of holes in golf are the longer ones that can require more than one long drive in order to get onto the green. These holes will require more than just a driver but a fairway wood. Fairway woods are golf clubs that are used for achieving longer distances and for allowing for a greater level of distance.

There is a simple purpose of this type of club. Fairway woods are used for helping to achieve longer distances after the tee shot. These golf clubs will get shots off that are going to be longer than that of what is used for irons but shorter than what is used with a driver. It works particularly for second shots on par five holes or as tee off shots on shorter par three holes.

The design that is used with one of these golf clubs is similar to that of what is used in a driver. The head is large and will be made of lightweight material so that the inertia in a swing can be properly controlled. Some heads will have higher volume levels. When this is the case the club will have a greater level of inertia and therefore will cause shots to be more controllable and straighter.

The loft that is used will also be higher than that of what is used for a driver. This loft is needed to be higher so that it will be easier to hit the ball out of the turf with ease.

The face will also be shorter than that of what is used for the driver. With a shorter face the ball can be hit through the direct center of the face. With this in mind it will be easier for shots to travel at longer distances.

Another feature is that fairway woods are ones that are going to be much longer in length than other clubs. They are not as long as drivers though. An average fairway wood will be about forty to forty five feet in length.

There are five different types of fairway woods. The strongest of these is the 2 Wood, or Brassie. This club can attain distances of up to 260 yards in most cases. A 3 Wood, or Spoon, can go up to 240 yards while a Cleek, or 4 Wood, can reach 220 yards. The two weakest of these golf clubs are the 5 and 7 Woods, or the Baffy and Seve. These clubs can get average distances of about two hundred yards.

Fairway woods are valuable golf clubs to use in many instances. These clubs are great for longer holes and for teeing off on shorter holes. They are built in ways that are similar to that of drivers but there are enough differences to make them unique and helpful in certain cases.
